When a child loses someone they love, grief can feel lonely and confusing, and the people around them often do not know how to help. Voices for Children Advocacy Center created the Grief Support Program to make sure no child or family in Genesee County has to walk that path alone.
Our program offers children, teens, and families a safe space to process loss and learn healthy ways to grieve and heal. Through peer support groups, children discover that they are not alone in what they are feeling. Sharing experiences with others who understand helps normalize grief, builds self esteem, and strengthens a child's ability to make positive choices, both now and as they grow into adulthood.
Why This Program Matters
Grief support for children in our community had been missing since 2023, when the area's only dedicated children's grief program closed. Schools and law enforcement agencies continued to encounter grieving children every day, and they began turning to Voices for Children for help. We answered that call because every child deserves a place to be heard and supported through loss.
