Kinship Care Support
You don't have to navigate kinship care alone.
Voices for Children Advocacy Center is proud to partner with the Michigan State University Kinship Care Resource Center (KCRC) to help connect kinship families with the information, resources, and support they need.
What is Kinship Care?
Kinship care is when a child is cared for full-time by a relative or another adult who has a close, family-like relationship with the child because their parents are unable to provide care.Kinship caregivers may be grandparents, aunts and uncles, older siblings, godparents, close family friends, or other trusted adults who step up to care for a child.
Opening your home to a child can be a loving and important step-but it can also come with unexpected challenges. Caregivers may have questions about school, healthcare, financial assistance, legal options, child care, emotional support, and more.
You don't have to figure it all out on your own.
Voices + MSU: Supporting Kinship Families
As a community partner, Voices for Children is committed to helping kinship families feel supported, informed, and connected.
When children cannot safely remain in the care of their parents, staying with someone they know and trust can help maintain important family and community connections. Kinship care can help children remain connected to their family, culture, traditions, and support systems.
Our partnership with MSU's Kinship Care Resource Center helps us connect families to additional resources and support beyond the services provided directly by Voices.
